ANOTHER dramatic last heat race win by Craig Cook secured Edinburgh Monarchs a deserved 45-45 draw at Rye House Rockets, and the two points they gained fires Monarchs into third place in the Premier League, one point behind Workington Comets and Redcar Bears, but the Capital squad have two matches in hand over them both.

On a night of high drama, the scores were tied 42-42 going in to the top scorers finale.

Cook and Claus Vissing faced Anders Mellgren and Josh Grajczonek but the referee excluded both Mellgren and Vissing for tape touching, the latter starting from 15 metres back.

But Vissing was adjudged to have moved from his penalised mark and was thrown out of the race altogether. Luckily, and not for the first time this season, Cook came to the rescue by defeating Grajczonek to seal the valuable draw.

Monarchs team manager says Vissing was hard done by, explaining: “Claus was adamant he did not move and he was using the spare new tyre we got for using the rider replacement facility for Theo Pijper.

“Claus was confident therefore that he would get a good start and I think that is why the referee felt he went too quickly.” Earlier, Cook was also penalised three times for tape touching, and Harkess added: “Craig was late in arriving due to tailbacks on the M6 and I think he was on edge.”

Monarchs only gained four points from the r/r facility which was a tad disappointing. But with Rye House also suffering a bit of bad luck, a draw was probably a fair outcome.

Scorers: Vissing 8, Cook 6 Sneddon 3, Pijper 2, Tabaka 2.

• TO cap a great weekend, Monarchs were crowned Premier League Fours Champions for the third time at Peterborough yesterday, their previous wins coming in 1981, and 1993.

Monarchs (21 points) defeated Ipswich (19), Somerset (17), and Berwick( 15) in the final.
