Swimming: Kris calls time

FORMER City of Edinburgh swimmer Kris Gilchrist has announced his retirement from competitive swimming.

Gilchrist, 28, the British 200m breaststroke record holder, won bronze medals at the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games for Scotland in 2006. He became 200m breaststroke world short course champion in 2008.

Gilchrist, who narrowly missed out on a place at the London Olympics, said: “I still love the sport, but my body won’t take it any more. The time is right for me and I am confident it is the right decision.”
