Volleyball: Bolstered City look to cool Jets

New-look City of Edinburgh aim to get off to a flier in the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League tomorrow when they face Edinburgh Jets at Broughton High School.

City lost their league title to Glasgow Mets last season after key players Gavin Watt and Colin Macnab left to play in France but the club has strengthened their squad over the summer.

Scotland international Niall Collin has come on board and City have also signed setter Graeme Spowart and middle player Iain Taylor.

An understrength team finished runners-up to Kilmarnock Blaze at last weekend’s John Kurtz Memorial tournament in Ayrshire after losing 2-1 in their final match.

Champions Mets open against Bon Accord and Kilmarnock will be hopeful of winning the Ayrshire derby against Troon.

In the women’s first division, City of Edinburgh face Edinburgh Jets in the match of the day.
