Volleyball: City take top spot after seeing off reigning champions Glasgow Mets

City OF EDINBURGH passed their biggest test of the volleyball season so far to go to the top of the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish League.

City entertained reigning champions Glasgow Mets and came through in four tough sets 25-20, 25-13, 20-25, 25-21. “It was always going to be a battle but we have shown signs of progress from match to match so far and the players rose to the challenge,” said player-coach Barry McGuigan, “It was a dominant performance.”

Elsewhere, Edinburgh Jets handed Troon PA their first league defeat of the season but had to work hard to come through 27-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22 in Ayrshire.

In the women’s first division, champions City of Edinburgh dropped a set but prevailed 25-19, 19-25, 25-6, 27-25 against Capital rivals NUVOC.

Coach Nick Moody took the chance to give some court time to some of the younger players in the team and they came through the challenge.

NUVOC threatened to take the match to a fifth set but City dug deep to take the fourth 27-25.

Troon PA proved too strong for Edinburgh Jets at home, comfortably winning 25-17, 25-17, 25-14.
