Volleyball: Faill’s gamble pays off

Craig FAILL, the new Scotland women’s volleyball coach, showed he is willing to give new blood the chance to shine as his team beat Ireland 25-27, 25-15, 25-17, 23-25, 15-6 in Dublin.

Faill, in his second spell in charge, included five new caps including City of Edinburgh pair Sophie Hunter and Fiona Kenny and Emily Smith from Edinburgh Jets.

Also making their Scotland debuts were Emma Clarkson (Su Ragazzi) and Caitlin McEwan (North Lanarkshire).

Yesterday’s win came at the end of an intensive training weekend and Scotland’s fitness showed up well.

“It was a case of job done. Emily Smith had a good game for her first cap and [Troon PA setter] Elaine Krawczyk was voted Most Valuable Player,” said Faill.
