The Edinburgh side, who reached last year’s final as a lower division club, eventually came through their quarter-final 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 25-14.

It sets up a derby with City of Edinburgh in the semi-finals – City overcoming Bellshill Cardinals convincingly, 25-9, 25-14, 25-14.

There will also be an all-Capital clash in the women’s semi-finals as City of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Jets both won through their quarter-final ties.

City beat QTS Troon II 25-14, 25-7, 25-12 and Jets beat NUVOC 25-21, 25-18, 25-22.

But Su Ragazzi look increasingly menacing in the other half of the draw and will face QTS Troon for a place in the final.

Vince Krawczyk, the Ragazzi coach, believes his team is hitting form at the right time.
