Walker shines in Prague

Scotland’s Kylie Walker had a career best joint fifth on the Ladies European Tour (LET) when Catriona Matthew won the Aberdeen Ladies’ Scottish Open at Archerfield in Gullane three weeks ago, writes ELSPETH BURNSIDE.

The 25-year-old went one better and had a top four finish after a great final round 67 in the Raiffesenbank Prague Masters at the Albatross Resort in the Czech Republic.

Walker and North Berwick’s Matthew share the same coach in Kevin Craggs. “Catriona has had a great season,” said Craggs. “And Kylie is the most consistent Scot on the LET. She has had a great run.”

Joint-13th going into the final round in Prague, Walker birdied the opening two holes and made more at the fifth, ninth and 14th for a flawless five under round to finish on nine under par.

But it was a disappointing final day for Musselburgh’s Vikki Laing, who was the top Scot on the Tour last year. She slipped to a 77 and finished joint 56th of the 58 players who made the cut.

France’s Jade Schaeffer claimed the title with a final round 70 and a 13 under par total. She won by two strokes from compatriot Julie Greciet.
