A stalwart of the circuit, he picked up the Pitreavie Trophy as overall winner in an unscheduled visit to Winterfield.

Laing, who plays off seven, carded a net 65 (32-33) for a one-shot success at the East Lothian course. The effort also earned Laing the top handicap prize, beating Peebles Colin Fraser and Walter Forsyth by one and two strokes respectively in that battle.

The scratch spoils were shared by Gullane’s Keir McNicoll and Zack Saltman from Archerfield Links after they posted matching 66s.

McNicoll signed for halves of 32 and 34 while Saltman’s score was made up the other way around.

The pair finished a shot ahead of Bathgate amateur ace Joe Bryce and pro Duncan Stewart, who is attached to Turnhouse.

Top trainee was Bryce’s clubmate, Louis Gaughan, on 68 while the senior prize was split four ways on 68 by Longniddry duo David Jeffrey and Duncan McInnes, Baberton’s Jimmy Rankeillor and David Watson from Peebles.

The circuit heads to Eyemouth next Wednesday for a rescheduled event.
