Wood admits Trinity got exactly what they deserved in Hawick defeat

TRINITY ACCIES coach Richard Wood insisted he was not too despondent after watching his team lose 46-8 to Hawick Linden in RBS Regional League East Division One. “There are no excuses, we just played very poorly, from one to 15,” he said.

“It is disappointing because we seemed to forget all the things we have been working on and the good stuff we did when pushing North Berwick all the way last week – but we know we can do better, and I’m confident we will do better. They played the conditions and we didn’t. It was dry when we arrived in Hawick then there was a heavy downpour so the ball and the playing surface were very slippy, and we just didn’t cope with that. They kicked smarter, and they were more dynamic around the breakdown, while we were far too loose with our defending.

“They got a bit of a spanking from Preston Lodge last week and teams always come out firing after a result like that.”

Trinity’s points came from a Phil Ryan try and a Neil Morrison penalty. They will now look to kick0start their season next week against Forrester, who lost 32-3 to North Berwick.
