World's best Billards players descend on Edinburgh

The Capital will host some of the world's top billiard players this weekend as they compete for the 2016 LITEtask Scottish Open Billiards title at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.

Peter Gilchrist is defending champion

Edinburgh’s Jamie Jenkins and Kenny Baird will line up alongside Scottish hope Davie Snedden aas defending champion Peter Gilchrist (Singapore) returns as one of the favourites to land the £640 on offer to the winner.

The players will also be playing for the Hugh Elden trophy. Elden, a fine billiards player, represented Scotland in the 2013 World Team Championship and won the 2014 Scottish Amateur Billiards title whilst battling cancer. He died last year.

Baird said: “After the success last year, it is a tremendous honour for Edinburgh to host an event with the calibre of billiards player again and also to be competing for the Hugh Elden trophy.

“Whilst billiards doesn’t have the visibility that other sports have, it is an art and some of these players have really mastered the game and can play at a very high standard.

“The Bert Demarco Matchroom provides a fantastic venue for the top players to showcase their talents and it will be a fantastic weekend.”
