Following the success of last year’s inaugural show, local state-funded special schools once again join together for a unique evening of performance celebrating the creative talent of young learning disabled artists.

An electrifying mix of film and live performance has been created by nine city schools and a group of students from Whale Arts Centre, with the showcase featuring a cast of children from across the Capital, ranging in ages from seven to 18.

Taking part this year are: Kaimes School, performing a dance routine to the ever popular Reach for the Stars, with choreography by Christina Liddell; Whale Arts Centre, who will screen an animation made with Gill White; Harmeny School who present a puppet performance made with Emma Reid; and Oaklands School, who will show the film they made with Oliver Ridgewell.

Also taking part are Woodlands School, who will also give a live puppet performance with a help from Emma Reid; Braidburn School who made a film with Jane McInally; and Redhall School, who present storytelling with recorded narration, made with Heather Lucchesi.

Finally, Prospect Bank and St Crispin’s schools will screen films they have made with Gill White, and Sarah Wakeford and Jane McInally, respectivley, while Pilrig Park take part in a dance piece called Lively Colourful, choreographed by Nico Major.

The Awfey Huge Variety Show follows on the success of Pilrig Park special school’s annual showcase, which has been presented at the Festival Theatre for the past 10 years.
