Next year, the iconic band who scored chart hits with pop classics such as Real Gone Kid, their first UK Top 10 single, play Edinburgh Castle next year, a concert lead singer Ricky Ross admits to being a long-held dream.

“We’ve wanted to play Edinburgh Castle for many years, so to get to do it as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of Raintown couldn’t be better. It’s a big year for the band and for our fans, many of whom have been with us since day one. What better way to celebrate together than having a great big party on Castle Rock?”

However, fans don’t have to wait that long to see their favourites in action as Deacon Blue are set to take to the stage of the Usher Hall tonight.

One of the best-loved pop groups of their generation, Deacon Blue formed in Glasgow in 1985 and went on to score album sales of more than six million, with 12 UK Top 40 singles, along with two UK No 1 albums.

The band’s debut album Raintown celebrates its 30th anniversary next year, and songs from that will no doubt feature at the Usher Hall tonight along with tracks from Believers.

The band’s eighth studio album, it consists of 12 tracks, written or co-written by Ricky Ross. Produced and mixed by producer and friend Paul Savage, who has worked with Mogwai, Arab Strap, The Twilight Sad, Wu Lyf, and who also worked with the band on The Hipsters, two tracks were mixed by Grammy award-winning Michael Brauer.

Believers continues a song writing trajectory that started with The Hipsters in 2012 and continued with A New House in 2014.

Song writing that is both rich, idiosyncratic sharply honed and inevitably coloured by a sense of urgency to make sense of recent events, both personal and global.

Ross says, “What a great achievement, thank you so much to everyone at earMusic, our brilliant promo team and of course everyone who bought the record. We really are over the moon.”
