Fashion: Masculine dressing

Cover those curves and conjure up your inner lad, it’s time to try out a little cross dressing for this season’s sexiest trend.

Masculine dressing was spotted on both spring-summer and autumn-winter runways so the savvy fashionistas out there should invest in pieces that can transcend both seasons.

It isn’t a new concept in the fashion world. Coco Chanel kicked off the theme back in the 20s, Diane Keaton and Bianca Jagger made it their signature looks in the 70s.

The way you tackle the trend is completely up to you. It’s about finding the perfect balance for your body shape, so popping feminine shapes underneath bulkier items is a must.

Try introducing oversized suits into your wardrobe. Opt for a peg leg pant, showing off your ankle draws the eye to the skinniest part of the body and adds a little shape to the outfit. To keep it sexy be bold and wear nothing underneath the tuxedo jacket.

We are seeing a lot of chiffon-esq shirts on the high street. The trick here is to button all the way to the top. It’s a severe look so inject some style ying and yang by choosing a girlie bottom. Pleated skirts in pastel tones work really well, or go for dramatic length with a floor-skimming maxi skirt.

Use accessories here to punctuate the trend. A chunky necklace inside the collar will round off the masculine edge. Or have fun by adding a bow tie, the same shade as your shirt.

There are a lot of bold neons around just in time for summer. Butch up the bright colours by slinging a blazer over the top. Adding a dense fabric over sheer really works to maximise the masculine.

Look out for interesting dress shapes. Bubble hems and items that don’t draw attention to the bust or waist tick the manly box.

Pop full pussycat bow shirts with structured leather, either in a skirt or trouser. You want to create depth with your material choices. Think of it like sweet and sour, but for fashion. This look is all about sugar and spice.
