Nostalgia: Murrayfield Stadium

IT has been the proud home of the ups and downs of Scottish rugby for almost a century – but now the name Murrayfield could be lost after the sport’s chiefs announced plans to sell off the naming rights.

Until March 21, 1925, internationals were played at Inverleith, with the first visitors to the new stadium being the Auld Enemy, England, who beat the hosts to claim their first Five Nations Grand Slam.

Away from the rugby, the famous stadium, which now seats 67,200, is regularly used to host major concerts, while in June 1964 thousands of Jehovah’s Witnesses gathered for an assembly.
