The young company, formed at Edinburgh University, bring their “brand new” Shakespearean tragi-comedy Bob, the play that Shakespeare would have written, could have written but never got round to writing, to the venue for a three-night run.

After all biodegradable flat-pack furniture in Sweden dramatically rots, leaving the Swedes furniture-less, Siegmund, the much-loved president of Finland, decides to help his neighbouring country. Unfortunately, he falls prey to a dastardly plot by none other than evil Swede-hater Lady Bob, who, with the help of murderous nuns, manipulates her hapless husband Bob to take over the throne.

Disgraced and exiled in Sweden, Siegmund’s only son, Siegfried, plans his return to Finland to avenge his father.

Designed to bring a tear to the eye, this gut-wrenching tragi-comedy combines cabaret, farce and satire to the stage, performed just as Shakespeare would have wanted it, with period samba, skulls, sword fights, epic mountain climbing, live jazz and surprise audience involvement.

Formed in 2014, Gin and Tonic Productions’ adaptations of Shakespeare’s classic plays Hamlet and A Midsummer’s Night Dream toured the UK, visiting Brighton and the Fringe in 2014 and 2015. Known for creating lively, current adaptations of Shakespeare that are accessible to younger and contemporary audiences, the company intend to take this one step further with Bob.

Bob, Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh College of Art, March 21-23, 7.30pm, and March 24, 9pm. Tickets £6 on the door
