What sort of school pupil were you? I was an academic for a few years then I picked up a guitar.

What was your first job? Picking up golf balls at a driving range.

What has been your most unusual job? Gamekeeper.

My biggest achievement so far has been... Getting my licence to breathe underwater.

My worst moment ever was… Told I couldn’t stand up at a Fleetwood Mac concert.

Three words that sum up my personality are... Hard workin’ man.

Favourite place in the world? On stage.

Three places in Edinburgh I could not live without are... Villager, Electric Circus and The Voodoo Rooms.

Who is your best friend? Ma Maw.

If you could bring one group to Edinburgh who would it be? Tom Waits, last time I saw him I cried.

Name one item you not live without? My bass, Black Betty.

By what ethos do you live your life? In the end, it’s not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

The Holy Ghosts, an Edinburgh rock ’n’ roll five-piece with a splash of country and a dash of the blues, release their debut album in July.
