T in the Park: Bay City Rollers join festival line-up
THE original boyband, Edinburgh's very own Bay City Rollers are to run with the gang at T in the Park in July, it has been announced.
Founding member Alan Longmuir will join frontman Les McKeown and guitarist Stuart Wood at the music festival in Strathallan Park.
For fans, it’ll be a chance to get a sneak preview of the band’s new single, Boomerang, from their forthcoming album currently being recorded at Boombox Recording Studios in Glasgow.
Longmuir, who formed the original Rollers in the late-60s says, “It was so exciting to be in the studio with Les, and Woody. Forty years in the making... but we’re still packing some rock’n’roll punch. The record sounds epic.”
Singer Les McKeown added, “This album sounds like the tape machines were never switched off in the 70s, and we never missed a beat.”
And Woody says, “The new album sounds like we’ve gone full circle, it was super exciting to recreate those career defining guitar sounds, and doing the vocals with the lads brought all the great memories flooding back.”
Album producer John McLaughlin, adds, “For me, it’s an absolute dream come true. The Bay City Rollers were the first records I ever bought and the excitement value on those records are what made me want to be a songwriter and record producer.
“I would love to even get close to how great those records were then with what we’re doing now. I’ve had to pinch myself being in the studio with my rock’n’roll heroes the Bay City Rollers. I feel we’ve captured some of the magic and excitement from the world famous hits, that the fans (like myself) have grown to love.”
With sales of over 70 million records worldwide, the Rollers were once the biggest band in the world and now, it seems, they’re back to do it all over again.
