Awards create boom time for local organic market

LOCAL restaurants Cafe St Honore and Feed, and hands-on wholefood co-operative New Leaf Co-op, are three Edinburgh businesses celebrating after being shortlisted for this year's prestigious BOOM (Best of Organic Market) Awards, having impressed judges with their commitment to organic produce.

Café St Honore and Feed are competing for the Best Organic Eating Out award.

The former, led by chef Neil Forbes, serves a changing daily menu of the best Scottish produce in a French bistro setting, while Feed is an American-style bar/diner specialising in burgers, ribs and wings – all of which are organic.

Forbes says, “To be included amongst so many other great places to eat is testimony, not just to the hard work the team at Cafe St Honoré, but to the small-scale producers, growers and true artisans who work hard to provide us with the finest produce our soils can grow.”

Chris Grierson of Feed, adds, “We are all about taking phenomenal organic produce to a new market.

“Our food is very sociable, young, casual and often a little tongue in cheek. Indeed our tagline is ‘Exploring posh meats’ dirty side’.

“Often customers ask why our product is so downright delicious. A very simple one word answer every time: organic.”

New Leaf Co-op is in the running for the Best Organic Independent Retailer award.

Isaac Rose of New Leaf Co-op, says, “I for one feel confident I can speak for all the team when I say it’s an exciting time to be working with wonderful organic food in Scotland.

“The people involved have true commitment to getting good food onto our plates.”

The winners of the BOOM Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on 5 July.
