Review: Aisling Bea - Plan Bea

IT looks like a near sell-out run for Irish-born comedian and actress Aisling Bea, such is the anticipation of her new 2015 show.

Gilded Balloon, Teviot

An energetic opening dance routine provides a surprise start to the evening, though it’s not long before Bea’s engagingly pacy delivery takes over and normal service is resumed.

From her childhood growing up in County Kildare with just two television channels and a hankering for America, to the time she spent in a drama school mime class, Bea shares her observations using the loosely linked themes of confidence and shame to propel the stories forward.

She flexes her comic acting skills to great effect too, while portraying opinionated friend Susan along with Hollyoaks cast members and an ex boyfriend’s unfaithful Wandering Micky. Despite this, you can’t help but feel something is lacking and there were times her path feels a little “well trodden”. The finale reveal, however, guarantees a broad smile on every face.
