DESPERATELY Seeking The Exit, the title of this free show at The Counting House, West Nicolson Street, comes from one theatre blogger’s cruel but, by all accounts, fair summation of the big-budget musical derived from the 80s film, Desperately Seeking Susan.

The fact that writer Peter Michael Marino is here at the Free Fringe, talking over the noise from the Pear Tree beer garden below, is a bit of a spoiler as to how things turned out with that particular venture. Despite a £4m budget and the approval of Debbie Harry and Blondie, whose music was to feature heavily, the show was beset by creative difficulties and flopped mightily.

Marino has a decent story and a genial stage presence. All in, a reasonably diverting hour, and likely to run for longer than the production which inspired it.
