'Sounds like a spoof' - Edinburgh reacts to city centre nightclub The Hive reopening as sit-down cocktail bar next week

Popular Edinburgh nightclub The Hive is to reopen as a sit-down cocktail bar offering food next week.

According to their Facebook page, staff will be taking contact details, advising people to wear masks when moving around, checking temperatures and installing hand sanitiser points while ensuring areas are regularly cleaned when it reopens on Monday, August 31. No music will be played in line with government guidance.

The Niddry Street venue will be open from 6pm to 3am and there will be tables catering for groups of four, six and eight people and these can be pre-booked from 6pm on Thursday night.

‘Better than going bust’

Evening News readers have been reacting to the announcement today.

One reader, Clara Morgan, said: "Good on them, better than going bust."

Darren Greenidge said: "Whistle Binkies on Friday too, and Banshee's in a week or so I've heard, so all we need is music back, and everything will be alright in the world."

A number of people tagged their pals in the comments sections on social media, asking when they are keen to go.

Some responses were written a bit more in jest.

One reader, Ginny Blake, said: "This just sounds like a spoof. The Hive as a sit down cocktail bar?"

Olga Sliwinska said: "That's going to be one manky cocktail bar."

Laura Jane quipped: "Is it April 1st?"
