Events to watch live online: 12 concerts, theatre shows, DJ parties and events you can live stream during lockdown

Most of this year’s big concerts, sporting events and festivals have been cancelled as the UK lockdown continues

However, this doesn’t mean you can’t watch events online from the comfort of your own home - in real time.

Here are events you can live stream from home, including concerts, theatre shows - and even wine tastings.

Music

TikTok have launched their first livestream series, #HappyAtHome. Taking place at 11am AEDT each day (1am in the UK), it features names such as Alicia Keys, Jason DeRulo and Dr. Phil. Visit the website for lineup details.

DJ D-Nice, known for DJing Barack Obama’s farewell party and for being part of the 1980s hip hop group Boogie Down Productions, is also hosting regular dance parties via Instagram Live. Follow his page for updates.

Classical concerts you can live stream

There are plenty of classical concerts you listen to live online, including the London Symphony Orchestra performing Verdi’s Requiem at 7pm on 5 April, and the London Symphony Orchestra performing ballet music by Stravinsky, including from The Firebird and The Rite of Spring, on 9 April at 7.30pm.

Podcasts and Q&A sessions

The Cosmic Shambles Network is running The Stay at Home Festival. The lineup changes each day and features a range of celebrities, including Brian Cox, Josie Long and many more.

The network will be live almost every day – sometimes twice a day - with their top podcasts such as ‘Book Shambles’ and ‘Science Shambles’, alongside presenting mixed bill comedy nights and conversations.

Upcoming events include Kid’s Science Club with Helen Czerski, Ginny Smith, Jamie Gallagher, Michelle Dickinson on Saturday 4 April at 11am, and a Covid-19 Q&A hosted by Robin Ince, at 7pm on Sunday 5 April.

Quality Wines is hosting daily online wine tasting sessions via Instagram Live.

You’ll find recommendations for similar bottles that they are tasting on the brand’s Instagram page.

Tune in each evening at 6pm on the Quality Wines Instagram page for virtual wine tasting from the comfort of your home.

Art galleries and museums

Digital art platform The Exhibit is showcasing a number of online exhibitions from local and international artists. You can explore Chromaesthesia by UK artist Dex Hannon, or browse the full range of exhibitions available online.

There’s also a range of other online virtual museums and art gallery tours around the globe, including the Natural History Museum and National Gallery in London, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.

Theatre at home

The National Theatre is making sure fans have something to watch every Thursday night for the next couple of months.

There will be a selection of much-loved National Theatre Live productions available to watch on YouTube for free over the next two months.

Each production will be free and screened live every Thursday at 7pm BST. This production will then be available on demand for seven days.

Although not live streamed, Digital Theatre offers more than 100 theatre shows, including Funny Girl starring Sheridan Smith, which was captured during its run at the Palace Theatre. Subscriptions start from £9.99 per month.

Broadway HD also allows theatre fans the chance to visit Broadway without leaving the comfort of your own home.

Stream over 200 recorded performances, including Orlando Bloom in Romeo and Juliet. The streaming service costs roughly £7.53 to subscribe.
