There’s plenty to do in Scotland’s capital this 14 February, even if you’re flying solo.

Whether you’d like to avoid romance altogether or get in on the action, here are some events that might tickle your fancy this Valentine’s Day.

Meet ‘The One’ at Speed Dating

If you’re single and ready to mingle, but are tired of online dating, you should check out a speed dating event.

Devil’s Cut is hosting one where women will be given the name of a female movie character and men will be given her male counterpart’s name - like Romeo and Juliet.

The aim is to wander around, get chatting and try and find someone who is your other half. If you find your match then you can collect a prize from the lucky dip.

There will be music, dancing and even a Love Note Board for you to leave a message to someone you fancy.

Tickets are £15; you can learn more about the event and book online here.

The Devil’s Cut is a private space event situated underneath the hotel and bar, Angel’s Share at 7-11 Hope Street, EH2 4EL.

Share the love with some cats (or dogs!)

There are other ways to get in the loving mood than spending it with other people - how about with some friendly felines instead?

Maison de Moggy is Scotland’s first cat cafe and is situated in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh.

Treat yourself to some cake and a cup of tea whilst you’re surrounded by furry friends - the presence of cats makes for a therapeutic and calming environment.

Check out the menu, the cats and find out more about booking a space online on the Maison de Moggy website here.

Maison de Moggy is found at 17 Wet Port, EH1 2JA.

If dogs are more your thing, then you’re in luck! Edinburgh is also home to the Chihuahua Cafe, where you can indulge in tea and cake while surrounded by tiny, adorable chihuahuas.

Find out more on the Chihuahua Cafe website here.

You’ll find the cafe at 15B Frederick Street, EH2 2EY.

Go for dinner with friends

If you can’t prise your couple-y friends apart for one night, BrewDog is offering up free food for third wheels.

If you head to one of BrewDog's pubs for food with your coupled-up pals, you’ll be able to bag a free burger or pizza - just book a table for three and quote “free meal for third wheels” to claim your freebies.

Learn more about the deal on the BrewDog website here.

You can find BrewDog in Edinburgh at either 50 Lothian Road, EH3 9BY or 143 Cowgate, EH1 1JS.

Alternatively, there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself to a fancy dinner on your own and you won’t feel awkward at The Table, an intimate 10-seater restaurant. It serves a multi-course tasting menu on a marble counter facing an open kitchen, where interaction with the chefs is encouraged.

The Table books up pretty quickly, so if it sounds like something you might be interested in, you can book yourself a spot online here.

The Table is found at 3a Dundas Street, EH3 6GQ.

Distill your own gin

Whilst other couples might be popping open the bubbly on Valentine’s Day, you can try your hand at distilling your very own bottle of gin with a workshop from Sip Antics Micro Distillery and Gin School Edinburgh.

You’ll receive a gin and tonic upon arrival and get to try three different gin samples before designing your own bespoke gin recipe from the available ingredients.

An individual mini copper still will be provided to distill your chosen ingredients so you can make a bottle of gin of your very own to take home.

While the gin is distilling, you’ll get to enjoy a cocktail before labelling, naming and wax sealing your personally distilled gin.
