An Edinburgh pub has left locals in stitches after shaming a 'thief' who allegedly stole an artwork from their walls.

The Dreadnought, on North Fort Street in Leith, framed CCTV images of the alleged culprit after the item went missing.

The pub's owers used the grainy footage to create their own Andy Warhol-style artwork, which they've hung on a wall with a caption that reads: 'the whale is always watching'

Shaming the alleged thief on Facebook, The Dreadnought team wrote in a post: “To the person who stole our artwork last week... Since you ignored our polite request to return it, we've replaced the stolen artwork with the CCTV sequence of you stealing the artwork.

“Petty? Yes. Arsed? No.”

After the post went up on Friday, January 31, pub regulars took to the comments section to voice their approval.

One person called it the “best response ever”, while another said “this is genius”.

A third customer wrote: “This is even better than when you temporarily changed the name in response to a homophobic incident!”

A fourth said: “This is so unbelievably good! Standing ovation all the way from Australia.”
