Christmas At The Botanics 2024 new dazzling light trail revealed - tickets on sale now

The magical outdoor trail, with more than 10 brand new light installations, is back for its eighth year - a six week run, over 35 nights, at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, from November 21 to December 30.

It attracted more than 95,000 people last year and visitors are being encouraged to book now to guarantee their preferred date and timeslot, with early evenings and weekends expecting to sell fast.

Off-peak tickets at lower prices are available again on selected evenings in November and December.

The city’s popular venue will again be transformed into a winter wonderland with a new and awe-inspiring route, illuminated by installations from all over the world.

New highlights this year include a Robins Trail, featuring a sparkling flock of red, gold and bronze robins, bringing good luck and messages of love, created by artist Cristina Ottonello.

Cranes will feature a collection of cranes, which appear to fly over head, a symbol of good fortune, longevity, hope and healing, created by UK-based art and design collective, Studio Vertigo.

Mycelium Network will be another highlight, visualising mushrooms, brought to life through coloured strobes and pulses, created by artist Stevie Thompson.

Returning crowd-pleasers will include the mesmerising Fire Garden and the Christmas Cathedral, which has become an Instagram fan-favourite for festive proposals.

Santa himself will also make an appearance.   

All installations are low in energy and selected to be sympathetic to the Botanics’ environment. 

Simon Milne, Regius Keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, said: “Our trail organisers continue to innovate and I’m delighted that there will be a focus on fungi this year with the Mycelium Network promising to be a real highlight.

“Visiting the Garden after dark is a pleasure, giving visitors the chance to see our plants and landscape from a very different perspective.

“Come along to the trail and support us.  We are a Scottish charity, and ticket sales from Christmas at the Botanics help to fund our international plant research, conservation work and education programmes.  The trail is great fun for friends and families and brings huge benefits too.”

Christmas at the Botanics is one of 12 illuminated trails staged across the UK by leading events promoter Raymond Gubbay Limited, a division of Sony Music. Christmas at the Botanics is presented in partnership with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and creative producer Culture Creative.
