Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has roared into life. Here’s a guide to the most recognisable cast of the show, from Matt Smith to Paddy Considine.
Set almost 200 years before Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon focuses on the messy lives of Daenerys Targaryen’s ancestors. The multi-million pound HBO show premiered on Sky on August 22, and, like its predecessor, its cast is packed with talented British actors. Here’s who the most recognisable ones are, the characters they play, and where you might have seen them before.
5. Olivia Cooke
Olivia Cooke is the older version of Alicent Hightower in House of the Dragon, a major player in the upcoming drama. She's previously been in the Oscar-winning Sound of Metal, as Lou alongside Riz Ahmed's Ruben.

6. Sian Brooke
Sian Brooke portrays Queen Aemma Arryn in House of the Dragon, King Viserys' wife and Rhaenyra Targaryen's mother. She has previously featured in BBC series Sherlock as Eurus Holmes, Sherlock's villainous younger sister.
7. Bill Paterson
Scottish actor Bill Paterson is one of those actors who seems to be in everything. In House of the Dragon he plays Lord Lyman Beesbury, Master of Coin. He has appeared recently in The Sandman as Dr John Hathaway, and also played the father in Fleabag, and Ned Gowan in Outlander.
8. Sonoya Mizuno
Sonoya Mizuno is cast as Mysaria in House of the Dragon, the brothel mistress who becomes known as Lady Misery. She has previously starred in the Alex Garland movie Ex Machina as Kyoko, and played Lily Chan in the same director's TV mini series Devs.
