Pick of the club nights

RENDEZVOUS has been described as ‘a fantastic club night’. It’s easy to see why, the resident DJs are young, enthusiastic and talented with an obvious passion for music.

Take Saturday, for example; that’s when The Green Room and Below The Stairs hosts the Hot Creations label party, with label owner Jamie Jones, arguably the DJ of his generation, on the decks.

Everything Jones produces goes straight to the top of the charts. But it’s been a long, long climb.

Today, his apartment is a museum to electronica, one he has built up over the years. “It’s just a case of the years spent training my ears to get things in the right places, get things sounding good enough for release,” he reflects.

“I generally work quite fast. I have a formula from where I start and I try to build tracks from there”.

Not bad for someone who dreamt of being a DJ from when was just a lad.

“I grew up in Wales and I didn’t know anyone with decks. It took me a while to even figure out how to beat match.”

Now, Jones is the trend maker. It’s impossible to label his sound as house, nor can you call it techno. It’s something different, hypnotic and deep but very, very good.

“I listen to what I listen to. I listen to new music or old music, whatever inspires me,” he says.

Jones is joined on Saturday by fellow label cohort Richy Amed for a party which is guaranteed to capture the essence of pure clubbing.
