The Edinburgh Festival Fringe was one of the many artistic casualties of the global pandemic, meaning the streets of the Capital have remained free of the usual August hubbub since the last full edition was held back in 2019.
The return of the event, scheduled to take place from August 5-29, will be welcomed by all those who missed the annual cultural feast, as well as business owners who rely on the huge number of visitors that flock to the city.
Parents are already scouring the programme for the must-see children’s shows – with family-friendly comedy and theatre often the first to sell out.
Here are 11 children’s shows that you can book tickets for now on the Fringe website.

9. The Princess and The Dragon
There's no need to break the bank to have a day out at the Edinburgh Fringe with the family - the Laughing Horse Festival has tickets available for as little as £5, while shows at the PHB Free Fringe simply ask for a donation at the end. The Princess and The Dragon, at PBH's CC Blooms venue, is one such show. It's a music-filled modern fairytale "about freedom, friendship and finding boundaries". Suitable for children aged 7-11, it's on from August 6-12 at 12.30pm. Photo: Contributed

10. Dragons and Mythical Beasts
Dragons and Mythical Beasts is a puppet show on a grand scale allowing children of all ages to meet a series of fantastical creatures, from the colossal Stone Troll and the secretive Tooth Fairy, to adorable Unicorns and majestic Griffins. Just be careful not to wake the Dragon! The mythological monsters will be taking over the Udderbelly most days from August 3-21 at 11.20am. Be warned that the first performance is already sold out on the Fringe website, so don't hang around. Photo: Contributed
