Edinburgh Festival Fringe: Scales of the Unexpected

Ian Bass, Ian Brandon and Bryan Pilkington have between them six legs, three hats, one beard and no dignity.

Comedy vocal trio Scales of the Unexpected are currently wowing audiences at the Third Door, on Lothian Street, with their madcap medleys and pop parodies. From Kylie to Coldplay, no one is safe. But who are they?

It’s our first time in Edinburgh and we’re all delighted to be here. Our showbiz education means we are a bit superstitious. We aim to be more than a Fringe one-hit wonder, so we really hope the angry gods of showbiz flash-in-the-pan smile on us.

We met at that prestigious dance conservatoire BALC – the Bananarama Academy of Literal Choreography – home of the famous Tony Hancock warm-up routine, which led to “the incident” that nearly got Big Ian expelled for being *too* literal. We honed our dance skills to iconic pop tunes of the decade that taste forgot – the 1980s.

We’ve come a long way since the giant shoulderpads and spandex leggings of our graduation showcase but we remain firm fans of the comedy dance. We’re now regulars on the cabaret scene and we recently won a TV talent show (that nobody watched because there were no dog acts).

This is the first full-length run of our show and there’s no better place to try it out than the Fringe. Join us in our subterranean cabaret grotto, and help us to save the world – one harmony at a time.
