It’s been my ambition to create a truly nationwide guide that helps our readers get more out of where they live. Scotland has such an incredible wealth of indie businesses, brilliant schools, beautiful landscapes and vibrant communities – we can’t wait to share them with our readers.
“Our Best Places to Live series has become the go-to guide for those searching for a new home. Written by local experts, it offers buyers reassurance, insights and inspiration that you simply can’t find on property portals. With Scotland and Wales now included, plus new features covering local culture, nurseries and lifestyle essentials, we’re proud to expand the guide’s authority at a time when people want more confidence in their property choices.”

5. Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire
What Muddy Stiletto said: "Milngavie (pronounced ‘Mill-guy’) is a suburb neighbouring Bearsden to the north and we think it hits the perfect sweet spot – easy access to the countryside and a village feel, but within spitting distance of all that city action. Perfecto." | Google Maps

6. Perth, Perthshire
What Muddy Stiletto said: "Sitting at the gateway to the Highlands and Islands, you’re never far from jaw-dropping scenery and a rich cultural heritage. With castles, battlegrounds, museums, and historical sites to explore (hello, Scone Palace!), history buffs will be in their element. And if that’s not enough, the city itself is brimming with culture, with top-notch performances at Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre." | Canva/Getty Images

7. St Andrews, Fife
What Muddy Stiletto said: "The historic seaside town of St Andrews is famous as the home of golf, as well as for its ancient university, where of course Prince William met Kate when they were students here. It is a beautiful place – the opening scene of Chariots of Fire was filmed on the glorious West Sands. International golfers and students give the bustling town a cultural and lively vibe, with plenty of great places to eat and drink." | St Andrews Links Trust

8. Stockbridge, Edinburgh
What Muddy Stilettos said: "The fact that Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital city and one of the most picturesque in the world, with the castle perched atop and Princes Street Gardens below, are two great reasons to live here, but there are loads more. Divided into the medieval Old Town to the south and Georgian New Town to the north, the centre is easily walkable with lots of green spaces to enjoy the views or take a break from the crowds of year-round tourists." | chris2766 - stock.adobe.com
