Despite the inevitable delays caused by the pandemic, building projects and developments have continued to change Edinburgh over the last year.
Next month will see the opening of shops in the first phase of the somewhat-divisive St James Quarter development.
Meanwhile other green-lit projects have been earmarked for completion over the coming months and years, from a 1,000-seated concert hall in the Old Town to hundreds of new homes being created in Fountainbridge.
But what are the buildings that will be making the news in the longer term?
The website www.skyscrapercity.com lists many developments yet to receive full planning approval – here are 13 of the most eye-popping.

5. The Art Works
Another Granton project currently at the proposal stage, the £75 Art Works would be a publicly accessible store of over 100,000 artworks housing the collections of the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS), the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA), and the Demarco Archives & Artist Rooms. There would also be libraries, research rooms, exhibition spaces, a café and a sculpture garden. Photo: John McAslan + Partners

6. Central Library Redevelopment
This £30 million refurbishment and redevelopment of the A-listed Central Library on George IV Bridge is at the proposal stage and would potentially add a community and cultural hub, a cafe and a rooftop restaurant. Photo: Central Library Redevelopment

7. Tribute Portfolio Hotel
Currently at the planning stage, this proposed £50million development would tranform the former Debenhams store on Princes Street into a Tribune Portfolio Hotel with 210 rooms, a spa, a restaurant, a rooftop bar, a café and a wine bar. Photo: ICA

8. Edinburgh College of Art Redevelopment
This £40million redevelopment of Edinburgh College of Art's Lauriston Campus is currently on hold but the proposal is to add a new building connected to the A-listed former fire station currently used by the college. This building would also be redeveloped, along with the nearby Hunter Building. Photo: Hawkins\Brown Architects, Morgan McDonnell Architecture
