Shoppers will have to wait until Spring 2021 before being able to experience the £1 billion new Edinburgh St. James centre after Covid-19 postponed the planned opening in October later this year. However, these pictures demonstrate that the major project is coming to life.
1. The cranes of the development dominate Edinburgh views
The development is now just months away from completion. Bosses behind the development say most of the construction crews will have finished their work and the cranes will disappear by the end of the year. The exact date for the centre’s opening is yet to be finalised. Photo: Lisa Ferguson
2. Three cranes at work
The shops in the project were due to open in October but because of Covid are now expected to welcome customers soon after Easter. All the other parts of the development are also due to open next year apart from the W hotel, which is scheduled for 2022. Photo: Lisa Ferguson
3. Shops
There is set to be over 80 shops in the development, including a new Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, Next, Zara and Lego stores. Photo: Lisa Ferguson
4. Hotels
As well as over 80 shops, the St James Quarter will have the 244-bedroom W hotel with its distinctive “ribbon” exterior and a 75-room Roomzzz Aparthotel, where guests can stay for anything from a night to a year. Photo: Lisa Ferguson
