Shoppers will have to wait until Spring 2021 before being able to experience the £1 billion new Edinburgh St. James centre after Covid-19 postponed the planned opening in October later this year. However, these pictures demonstrate that the major project is coming to life.
9. Bonnie and Wild Scottish Food Hall
Earlier this month it was announced the development would have the first Bonnie & Wild Scottish food hall, a 16,600 sq ft space billed as the largest single food and beverage site in Scotland. As well as featuring a wide range of Scottish produce, it will offer visitors a taste of life on a Highland estate with a virtual stalking and grouse shooting experience. Photo: Lisa Ferguson
10. The W Hotel
The planned W Hotel which is owned by the development but will be run by hotel chain Marriott, will be finished off with a metallic finishing at the top to imitate a ribbon in the wind and is still on track for its 2022 opening. Photo: Lisa Ferguson
11. Loop Arch
The loop arch layout of the centre will work as a connection between Princes Street and George Street via St Andrew’s Square and Multrees Walk. It will allow shoppers to wonder through both these areas. Photo: Lisa Ferguson
12. More shops to come
Hackett, Next, Bershka, Stradivarius, Mango and Waitrose are also among the retailers set to open new stores within the scheme next year. An existing John Lewis on Leith Street will become an anchor, complete with a new entrance for access via Edinburgh St James. Photo: Lisa Ferguson
