Edinburgh pumpkin picking: Balgone Estate in North Berwick offers £1 pumpkins, marshmallow toasting and corn maze

Our reporter Annabelle has a look at what’s on offer at Balgone Estate’s pumpkin patch in North Berwick

Halloween is upon us and everyone is booking in to pick pumpkins in local farms across Edinburgh and the surrounding area. One place that promises to offer a spooky experience is Balgone Estate in North Berwick. The pumpkin patch is situated on a large farm that also offers a range of amenities and fun activities to allow the whole family to have some Halloween fun.

There is plenty of parking available with just a short walk to the pumpkin patch. On route there are all kinds of farm animals to see as well as various food trucks selling all kinds of snacks if you are feeling peckish and mulled wine can be served for the adults. Before picking your pumpkins, there is a haunted trail that goes around the farm where you are greeted by spooky guests along the way. From climbing through a spiders web to walking under ghosts in the trees, there is plenty to see throughout the path.

Halfway through the haunted trail you are greeted by a cabin full of witches on a misty lake that will toast marshmallows with you over an open fireplace. In the lake you can spot witches paddling in their boats and having some tea, as well as the occasional mysterious crime scene. At the end of the trail, there is a corn maze where you are challenged to find the correct path in order to find your way out onto the pumpkin patch where the final activity commences; pumpkin picking.

All kinds of pumpkins are available to buy from just £1. From miniatures in all shapes and colours, to mega pumpkins and freshly grown corn, the farm offers a range of natural produce to buy. Dogs are allowed on the haunted trail and other surrounding areas, but when entering the pumpkin patch a team of staff look after your pooches for free whilst you pick out your crops.

There are toilets on site and plenty of lounge areas to relax after your Halloween adventure. It is only £7 per car and various time slots can be booked online.
