Informatics Ventures launches snapshot of 2020 from 500 Scottish tech firms

Informatics Ventures has launched its fourth annual start-up survey to discover 500 tech companies’ views on what will impact their businesses over the coming year.

The tech entrepreneur support group will quiz around 500 EIE (Engage Invest Exploit) alumni ahead of this year’s event which will take place next month.

Hot topics for this year’s respondents are expected to include Brexit, IndyRef2, digital skills, scale-up talent, funding, ecosystem support, office space and internationalisation.

EIE is a year-round entrepreneurship and investor readiness programme which culminates in a tech investor event, where 50 data-driven start-up to scale-up companies pitch to potential funders from around the world.

This year’s technology investor showcase will take place on Thursday 23 April at the University of Edinburgh’s McEwan Hall.

Callum Murray, chief executive and founder of regulatory tech specialist Amiqus, a previous pitch winner at EIE, said: “Hiring post-Brexit is certainly relevant, in addition to the related question around opening an office outside the UK to counter any Brexit effect.

“Another thing I think is important is educating start-up founders around taking investment from angel syndicates and all that this entails because for every startup with a good experience of angel investing there is another with a less favourable one.”
