Staff at Dunelm get into the community spirit by launching charitable projects

Dunelm home store at Straiton has launched several new campaigns that will look to share kindness throughout their community and beyond.

The campaign has four elements split into two phases. Phase one will involve Bring a Blanket, Feed a Family and Cards for Kindness.

Bring a blanket will ask for employees of Dunelm to donate any old towels or blankets to be collected and shared with the Edinburgh Zoo animal hospital as well as the Edinburgh Cat and Dog home.

Feed a Family will entail a shopping trolley being placed in store for staff to put items of food into that will then be shared with a local food bank.

The Cards for Kindness element will involve staff and members of the store’s community Facebook page writing and creating personalised messages and art works for elderly residents in a nearby care home.

Phase two will be launched when customers can return to the store and become involved in the above elements of the campaign safely.

Dunelm had previously organised the Delivering Joy campaign. This was the first campaign that they launched as part of the Facebook groups across the company, and was aimed at delivering joy to local care homes, primary schools and refuges.

Courtney Clifford, who works for Dunelm and helped to organise the campaigns, said: “As part of the Delivering Joy campaign, trees were set up within the stores and on them were tags with the name, age and gift each person in our local care home and primary school wanted.

“Customers were free to take a tag, purchase the gift on it and return it to the store. We were overwhelmed at the response and generosity of the customers who donated these gifts to our store. Every tag was returned and every care home resident and primary school pupil received the exact gift that they asked for and more.

“After the great success of our last campaign we hope for the same results for our ‘Delivering Kindness Campaign’.

“If anyone wants to get involved then they can join in by searching the Dunelm Edinburgh Community page on Facebook and joining. We would love for this to be a success so the more members that are involved the better.”
