Two fifth of Lloyds staff don’t want to go back to the office, according to the banking group’s largest trade union.

BTU surveyed 5,000 of the 45,000 Lloyds staff currently working from home, and 40 per cent said they would like to work from home full time, and about half said they would do so for two to three days a week if given the choice.

About seven in ten said they were saving up to £500 a month - and nearly two-thirds said their wellbeing was much better – working from home. However, three quarters said they were working more than seven hours a day at home, and nearly half said they sometimes felt lonely in that environment.

The bank, which owns Bank of Scotland, has reportedly said “changes to the way we work” is likely to mean “we need fewer buildings”.

Mark Brown, general secretary at BTU, said: “The office is not dead, but what this research shows is that Lloyds staff are in no rush to get back, especially when the winter wave of Covid 19 could be much worse, according to the scientists.

"In the post-Covid world, more staff will want to work from home more often and the bank needs to geared up for that ‘new normal’. Equally, we’ll want to ensure the bank doesn’t use home working to just make the working day longer and longer for our members.”
