Edinburgh University graduation style tips '˜sexist' and '˜classist'

EDINBURGH University has come under fire for giving out 'sexist' and 'classist' advice to students about what to wear on graduation day.

The tips – which appeared on the university’s website last week – included carrying an Alexander McQueen clutch bag at a cost of £2395.

And there was also advice suggesting that degrees were “less important than showing some leg”.

The recommendations came from high-end retailer Harvey Nichols and two Edinburgh-based fashion professionals.

University bosses removed the article two days after it was published and apologised for the “inappropriate” advice on Twitter. A spokesman said it was “not normal practice to promote or advertise any external companies or services”.
