A high-reach digger was expected to begin tearing down the school’s iconic tower block structure yesterday morning but will now not get started until tomorrow.

It is understood the delay is to allow extra time for final checks to be carried out at the Duddingston Road site and that the demolition will be completed within its existing three-week timeframe.

Once demolished, work will then be able to get under way on a new building for St John’s Primary School, which has been earmarked for an August 2018 opening.

It will come in addition to the new £1 million Treverlen Park, which will be located alongside the school.
