Using the latest data from primary seven results in 2025, the annual table assesses nearly 1,200 schools across key skills including reading, listening and talking, numeracy and writing.
This year a total of 84 schools taught nearly every child to the required standard across all key skills, slightly lower than the record 89 top performing schools last year.
Chapelside Primary in Airdrie was ranked as the highest performing school in Scotland, with St Anthony’s Primary School in West Lothian being the only school in the Lothians to make it into the top 10.
Among the best performing Edinburgh primary schools were Bruntsfield Primary School, Janes Gillespie’s and Roseburn Primary School.
The Sunday Times noted more than a third of 1,926 primary schools on the government database did not submit data to the annual Achievement in Curriculum for Excellence Levels publications. Of the schools that did participate, the Times ranked the institutions by aggregating data relating to reading, writing, numeracy, and combined listening-and-talking.
