Two libraries in Midlothian shut to enhance facilities

Two libraries within the Lothians are to be closed for refurbishment.

Midlothian Council has announced that Mayfield and Newtongrange libraries will shut temporarily in March to allow work to be carried out.

New shelving and furniture will be installed at both libraries, and their layout will also be redesigned to make it more user-friendly.

Mayfield Library will be closed from March 2 and will reopen on March 12.

Newtongrange Library will be closed from March 9, reopening on March 19.

The council’s libraries spokesman Peter Boyes said: “These refurbishment works will help make Mayfield and Newtongrange libraries even more attractive for local users.

“I’d like to thank the local community for their patience while the improvement work is carried out.”

Midlothian’s library service is reminding users that they can use any library in the county to return or borrow books.

Items borrowed from either Newtongrange or Mayfield libraries before the closure will have their loan period extended throughout the period.
