Winter bug continues to sweep Edinburgh schools as hundreds of pupils call in sick

A winter bug is continuing to wreak havoc across Edinburgh’s schools as nearly 500 pupils called in sick yesterday.

The number of those absent from the worst affected schools had grown by from the previous day with 489 children absent from seven city schools yesterday.

It was reported in Wednesday’s Evening News, that a total of 135 youngsters had been affected by the virus at Taobhnapairce Gaelic primary school in Bonnington, however, that number increased yesterday to 148.

Letters have been sent to parents by NHS Lothian alerting them of symptoms and urging them to seek advice from GP or call NHS24 on 111. All those affected should stay off school for 48 hours.
