African priest in HIV talk

AN Anglican priest from Uganda is set to talk about his experience living with HIV at two events organised by an Edinburgh-based charity.

Rev Canon Dr Gideon Byamugisha will speak about the stigma and discrimination associated with the condition and about the need to speak out against stigma and to educate people about the facts of HIV.

Waverley Care, Scotland’s leading HIV charity, is organising a Christian faith and health conference on July 9.

The conference at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall aims to improve HIV knowledge, reduce stigma and improve early take up of testing.

The following day, the charity will host another event at St John’s Church on Princes Street where Canon Gideon will participate in a “taster” for the Festival of Spirituality and Peace.
