Anniversary celebrations for hospital

An eight-part lecture series is telling the story of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital ahead of its bicentenary next year.

American academic Andrew Scull, professor of sociology and science studies at the University of California, gave the keynote speech last night.

The series aims to highlight the hospital’s 200 years of leading mental health care across the Lothians.

Tim Montgomery, director of operations at the Royal Edinburgh, said: “I am sure the series will appeal to many people including clinicians, staff, the local community and members of the public.

“We are finalising our plans for a range of bicentenary celebrations next year and hope to involve all those interested to join us in this major milestone of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, which has been at the forefront of mental health care services since it first opened.”
