Coronavirus in Scotland: 18 new deaths recorded as the Lothians see 169 new cases in last 24 hours

A total of 18 deaths have been recorded in Scotland in the last 24 hours as the government confirms 169 people have tested positive for the virus in the Lothians since yesterday.

The First Minister reported that a total number of 1,401 new cases were recorded across Scotland in the last 24 hours.

Of those new positive cases, 169 were in the Lothians, 493 cases were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 413 in Lanarkshire and 117 in Ayrshire and Arran.

The remaining were spread across the nine other health boards.

The First Minister reported that 975 people are currently in hospital with coronavirus, an increase of 41 people from the figures reported yesterday.

76 people are in intensive care, which is two more than yesterday.

The news of 18 new deaths in the last 24 hours brings the total number of coronavirus deaths in Scotland to 2,688.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 54,016 people in Scotland have tested positive for the virus.
