We take a look at 9 Edinburgh restaurants and cafes – many that had been in business for generations - that have sadly ceased trading due to the pandemic.

1. The Apartment, Barclay Place

2. Tower Restaurant, Chambers Street
Situated atop the National Museum of Scotland, the Tower Restaurant was once described by top food critic AA Gill as "the hottest table int he city" on account of its stunning panoramic views of central Edinburgh.
