Coronavirus deaths have doubled in a week according to the National Records of Scotland

Twenty people have died with coronavirus mentioned on the certificate, double the number from last week.

The National Records of Scotland have released the latest Covid statistics showing a marked increase in deaths where the virus was linked.

They have announced that the R Number is now sitting between 1.3 and 1.7.

The Scottish Government reported that on Tuesday, 800 new positive cases were confirmed.

The First Minister will be announcing new coronavirus restrictions on Wednesday, although has said that Scotland will not go back into full lockdown as was the case in March.

Ms Sturgeon has confirmed that schools will remain open and travel within the country will not be restricted.

People will also not be asked to remain in their homes as they were in March, though local areas with a particularly high number of cases may have stronger restrictions in place.

Ms Sturgeon will be addressing the nation with the latest update at 2.50pm.
