Coronavirus in Scotland: 383 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours with one new death reported

Of the new cases, 181 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 92 in Lanarkshire and 51 in Lothian.

Confirmed coronavirus cases in Scotland have risen by 383 in the past 24 hours, the Scottish Government has announced.

A total of 25,009 people have now tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland.

This is 7.6% of newly-tested individuals, up from 6.3% on Monday.

One new death of a confirmed patient has been recorded and the death toll under this measure is now at 2,506.

Of the new cases, 181 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 92 in Lanarkshire and 51 in Lothian.

There are 73 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus, the same as Monday. Of these patients, 10 were in intensive care, a rise of two.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the daily average of cases in July was nine, but this week it is 285.

"It is rising faster than we are comfortable with,” the first minister said, who also confirmed deaths are starting to rise.

She confirmed the R number – the average number of secondary infections produced by a single infected person – is not above one and might be as high as 1.4.

The total number of deaths recorded so far in Scotland is 2, 506.
