The cases were confirmed at Hermitage Park primary, which has 13 classes in total, in the last few weeks.

Three of the classes affected will be returning to the school on Monday following a period of self-isolating and the other pupils will see a staggered return once they have stayed home for the recommended period.

A council spokesman said: “We are working with NHS Lothian’s Health Protection team and parents and the wider school community have been provided with information and reassurance. We will continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice provided.”
