Coronavirus in Scotland: Seven out of 13 classes at Edinburgh primary school sent home following outbreak

Seven classes in total have been sent home from a primary school in Edinburgh following an outbreak.

The cases were confirmed at Hermitage Park primary, which has 13 classes in total, in the last few weeks.

Three of the classes affected will be returning to the school on Monday following a period of self-isolating and the other pupils will see a staggered return once they have stayed home for the recommended period.

A council spokesman said: “We are working with NHS Lothian’s Health Protection team and parents and the wider school community have been provided with information and reassurance. We will continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice provided.”

According to the latest government data released on 26 March, six more coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours and 543 people have newly tested positive for the virus.

To date, 2,322,832 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination.
