Fettes College: Edinburgh boarding school to close following 'a number of confirmed cases of Covid'

Fettes College in Edinburgh has confirmed that it will be switching to remote learning following a ‘small number of confirmed cases of Covid-19’.

After seeking advice from NHS Lothian and Health Protection Scotland, the boarding and day school confirmed today, Friday, June 18, that in-person teaching would be suspended for the remainder of the term.

Day pupils will not be returning to the school – found on Carrington Road – and boarding pupils will be taken care of until travel can be arranged to return them home.

A statement from Fettes College on Friday, said: “Due to a very small number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 within the pupil body at Fettes College, advice has been sought from Health Protection Scotland as well as NHS Lothian and a decision has been made to switch to remote learning for the rest of the term.

"Day pupils will stay at home from tonight and boarding pupils will be looked after at Fettes until suitable travel arrangements can be made (with appropriate testing taking place prior to travel).

"This is simply a protective measure to limit any possible further spread of this highly transmissible Covid-19 variant and mirrors the actions taken by other schools.”

It is understood that Fettes College is the first boarding school in the Capital to make the decision to close its door for the remainder of the summer term due to Covid-19 concerns.

Earlier this month several primary schools in Edinburgh reported similar outbreaks of coronavirus resulting in a number of staff and pupils having to isolate.
